Our Writer

About 13 years ago, J.R. Rodriguez started writing as a new obsession after he quit drinking. His first film, Remember Yesterday, won the Florence International Romance Festival, and since then, he has been developing a semi-biographical story that explores aging and life after realizing that your chosen family is often closer than your natural family. J.R. has written 6 feature films and 3 series pilots, including A New York Christmas Story and PROPHETS. He is also involved in independent film production in Wilmington, NC, where he draws inspiration from the rich Wilmington film history to create his works, including a dramatic comedy series.

Our Producers

With a combined lifetime in the film and theatre world, our producers draw energy from diverse experiences. Jerry Winsett, a proud SAG/AFTRA member with a SAG Award, brings his expertise to the table. Amy Lynn Church has honed her skills both in front of and behind the camera, spending years contributing to dramatic comedy series like One Tree Hill. Meanwhile, the young talent, Abrielle Cincotti, keeps the older generation informed about the latest trends appealing to the youth, all while celebrating Wilmington film history and the vibrant world of independent film production.

Wilmington Film History

Wilmington, NC, and Southeastern North Carolina boast a rich Wilmington film history that dates back to the 1980s when Dino De Laurentiis launched his project, Firestarter, featuring a young Drew Barrymore. Since then, Wilmington has become a hub for independent film production, delivering not only studio films but also notable independent films such as Uncle Frank, Stateside, and the recently released dramatic comedy series, Eric LaRue.

How we do it...

The incredible infrastructure of the film business and the vibrant film community in Wilmington contribute to its reputation as a hotbed for television and streaming series. This includes popular dramatic comedy series such as Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill, as well as adaptations like Under The Dome and the coming-of-age hit, The Summer I Turned Pretty. Additionally, Wilmington's rich film history has fostered a thriving environment for independent film production, attracting many filmmakers to the area.

A Touch of Grey Series - A Dramatic Comedy Adventure

You've been watching us for year...Without knowing it!

GEN X

It is no secret, this story centers around the 50’s and 60’s year olds. It is widely known that GEN X is the bridge between The Boomers and Millennials and GEN Z. This demographic is also unique in that they utilize both traditional TV and streaming services, unlike other demographics that typically choose one or the other. The GEN X audience leans heavily on popular platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Apple TV.

With a demographic that’s also twice as likely to engage with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram daily, the marketing potential is significant. The success of comedic television and streaming shows has led to increased viewer engagement, thanks to effective word-of-mouth marketing campaigns. Producers of the dramatic comedy series A Touch of Grey are eager to replicate this success. With various aspects of A Touch of Grey appealing to this diverse demographic—whether it’s the noble character struggles, messages of faith, or comedic moments—there is plenty of potential for this independent film production to resonate with the GEN X audience. Additionally, with its roots in Wilmington film history, A Touch of Grey is well-positioned to strike a chord with viewers.

Dramatic Comedy Fans

The dramatic comedy series has a proven track record with audiences. Dealing with the human experience, this genre is relatable to many demographics. A Touch of Grey was crafted with characters appealing not just to the GEN X generation, but also to teenagers and seniors. The purpose is to tell a story where the world is inclusive and everyone’s point of view matters.

Although the term dramatic comedy is not designated as a specific genre, the proof of these hybrid shows is widely recognized. Ted Lasso, Sex Education, Atypical, and the award-winning Somebody Somewhere are examples where combining uncomfortable situations with comedy is not only accepted but also successful. A Touch of Grey does this through the experiences of a group of adults who, in any given situation, have a choice. The question becomes whether they act like adults and handle the situation with maturity or revert to their childish ways. This narrative is particularly relevant in the context of independent film production, as it reflects a broader trend seen in Wilmington film history.
